Why Hello Brave

We wished we'd had the words from day one.

When our eight-year-old son was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma, we came home from the hospital and sat together in silence. We didn't know how to explain cancer — or everything that was about to happen to his body.

Hello Brave grew from that experience. We create the words and tools we wish we'd had from the beginning, so kids can understand what's happening to them and be part of the conversation about their own care.

A Brave Kid's story

"Jessica, check out this cool book!"

Cover of A Brave Kid's Guide to Leukemia

A 7-year-old with leukemia received A Brave Kid's Guide while he was being homeschooled during treatment. After reading it with his mom, he came to clinic excited to tell his child life specialist that he finally understood spinal taps and blood cells.

Treatment wasn't just happening to him anymore. He understood what was happening.
